Amhara regional State has secured over 433 million Birr in revenue from tourism over the last 12 months ( 2004 E.C).

The income has been obtained from more than 2,155,403 domestic and international tourists visiting the attractions sites existing in region.


The amount secured Compared with the same period last year, the total number of tourists and the associated revenue has risen by 48.1%/, and 37.63% respectively


The major reason for its increament in revenue have been:- the expanision and upgrading of infrastructure in the country and in the region as well ,the expanisions of tourist fasilities and accomodations in quantity and quality and the well targeted promotional works in diffrent time.

The income was secured in charges of service from the tourists and sale of souvenirs, among others.


The stated number of tourists had visited the Semien Mountains, the Fasil Castle, monasteries of Tana, the Lalibela Rock-hewn Church, among others. (The Amhara culture and tourism Bureau)
